Serving in Florida!

The idea that struck me most convincing was that Ehrenreich wrote "managers can sit for hours at a time if they want but it's their job to see that no one else ever does, even when there's nothing to do". I find that very convincing because I have witnessed it. Not only at my current job but also at many others I have seen this. For all the employees that have managers like this it is hard to manage ourselves!
I have learned many things while I am working. I learn a lot about people in general. People are very interesting and with each person coming in to my work I have a different experience with the situation. I am a hostess at Der Dutchman and I pretty much have the same routine, I greet whoever comes in the door and I take them to a table! It's just a blast! I definitely enjoy the people who talk to me about something other than the table. One of the most simple but also most important things I have learned from working is to always smile! Even if the day absolutely sucks, the act of smiling, turning that frown upside down, also turns your mood around!

  3. I have had the same experience you have with managers not doing everything and sitting down. My manger even gets on the computer and looks at facebook all the time. I also liked your smile idea, I always try to make my customers happy as I walk out of the door!

  4. My manager is exactly the same way. I feel like I can't stop moving ever or she'll make me do something horrible.

  5. Kevin, joking around at work always helps the time pass by fast!
JD, managers definitely want you to always be busy!
Kelsie, that's ridiculous that your manager gets on facebook that would make me so mad. That's awesome too about trying to make your customers happy!

  6. Cassia, I feel like they are always on the look out to make people do stuff the managers don't want to do themselves!

  7. I feel like we have something in common in terms of managers wanting their workers to stay busy all the time.

  8. Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.
