PTSD-Vietnam war

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or commonly known as PTSD, is caused by a major event that makes a person feel stressed about it throughout their life. The Vietnam veterans had horrific experiences in Vietnam, such as the My Lai massacre, which caused them to become insane with the actions they committed. In the 1960s, the Vietnam veterans that returned were not diagnosed for any mental disorder, even though they were suffering from PTSD.

what changes in treatment for PTSD have been made? How does the military now treat sufferers of PTSD? Is it common in Iraq War veterans?

The US government has been spending a million dollars on researching cures for PTSD. New information about PTSD treatment is being discovered. A non-pharmaceutical approach is being used as long-lasting treatment that is effective. The "military uses different methods to treat PTSD. One way is using acupuncture."

"At the time of the study (middle to late 1980s), among Vietnam veterans, approximately 15% of men and 9% of women were found to currently have PTSD. Approximately 30% of men and 27% of women had PTSD at some point in their life following Vietnam"

  2. I feel awful thinking about what the soldiers had to go through. Hopefully the veterans got through it or made some positive progress!

  6. As we read in our book war can really change a persons mind. It is sometimes that for the solder the true war really starts when they come home if they have PTSD.
