My favorite passage from MLK's letter is this, I even posted some of it on my Facebook wall because I liked it so much!
"Yes, these questions are still in my mind. In deep disappointment I have wept over the laxity of the church. But be assured that my tears have been tears of love. There can be no deep disappointment where there is not deep love. Yes, I love the church. How could I do otherwise? I am in the rather unique position of being the son, the grandson and the great-grandson of preachers. Yes, I see the church as the body of Christ. But, oh! How we have blemished and scarred that body through social neglect and through fear of being nonconformists."
MLK is an awesome writer! Even when discussing things he is disappointed about he comes across very respectful and caring. He doesn't just point out and bash what's wrong. Instead, he explains why he is disappointed because he has so much love overall. If everyone argued the way he does I bet we would accomplish more. The way he reasons the church being the body of Christ is a great way to explain the situation. He expresses the body is being scarred and blemished, by the way he expresses this it makes it more personal to people. It is a different but effective way of looking at the whole situation!
I believe if everyone took the time to step away from their own interpretations and see the situation from a different perspective everyone would have a better understanding. Usually everyone sticks to listening to their own opinions rather than listening to the opposing side. Maybe people think that if they just listen to the other side it implies they are agreeing. People can be so stubborn and because of that we forget to listen. If everyone listened to each other and respected the opposing side and treated people with kindness, we would promote peace. Peace is not going to be an easy victory but there are ways we can get closer and closer!
i believe too when people do to rights thing other agree to is good ideas come together make some points
ReplyDeleteIt is very important to try to look at conflicts from multiple points of view.
