The photo that stood out to me was the fifth picture in the essay,
where you see a stack of compacted vehicles that will now be good for
nothing but to hopefully be scrapped and recycled. Junk, and a lot of
it. It gives some frame of reference to what we are doing to our own
environment and how it can be avoided. The photo makes me wonder how
long the earth can sustain the species that is seemingly attempting to
destroy it, us. The most powerful part of the writing from this caption,
in my opinion is where the author says "the same commentary could be
made about all sorts of other manufactured items, large and small-
refrigerators, air conditioners, computer monitors, cell phones,
rechargers, batteries, dirty diapers, plastic bags and bottles, to name a
few
of millions. Add to this the accumulation of waste-
industrial, human and animal- all of which grows in
proportion to the humans whose own population
explosion
affects every aspect of the problem." This is a very effective bit of
writing after looking at that picture because it illustrates the dilemma
on a small scale- a single picture from a junk yard and then relates it
to the large scale- land fills world wide. How long can this earth sustain us?
Nature
gives us everything, even the things that are man made, technological
advancements. The raw materials, components and concepts for those
revolutionary ideas are all taken from the earth. This is powerful
because we could not survive a single day without the resources from our
natural environment, yet many of us make conscious decisions daily that
are contributing to the destruction of our primary life source.
Nature does give us everything! That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteHarmony :)
it is true that nature provides everything for us, and although a car doesnt seem at all to be from nature, every part or aspect of the car was produced through various deposits or areas of nature where the elements or compounds were found
ReplyDeleteI picked this picture as well, it show so many different things...
ReplyDeletecreativity and artistry we can view this picture as a beautiful thing, but the story behind it is very ugly. For example how cars polluted our air.
ReplyDeleteColorful cars!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is honestly hard to believe that those were once cars!
