"Good Form"

Good Form happens to be my favorite passage because it is short and precise. Reading O'Brien's narrative in this passage about watching a man die on a trail, and its description (...his jaw was in his throat), made me feel empathy just like O'Brien anticipated his readers would. We can learn that empathy being a unique trait of human nature can be felt just by merely seeing, hearing or reading about a mishap, regardless if we are directly responsible or not.

Interpretative Questions
Why did O'Brien write this story?
Why did O'Brien feel a burden of responsibility and grief?

Favorite Interpretative Question
How can you tell a true war story?

  3. In this passage, O'Brien wanted to make us, the readers, step in his shoes and he did a great job doing that.
