William C. Westmoreland
He was born on March 26th, 1914. we was the son of a Spartanburg, SC textile manufacturer. he was part of the boy scouts and earned his Eagle Scout before entering the Citadel in 1931. He then transferred to West Point. He graduated and was the corps' first captain. He recieved the Pershing Sword which was given to the most outstanding cadet in the class. He went to three wars, WW2, Korean war and the Vietnam war. He rose quickly through his ranks. In WW2 he was lieutenant colonel by 1942 and by 1956 he was General of the army. he lead the war in Vietnam. He lead his army with an aggressive strategy of search and destory. He had sought to win the battle of tattrition with the North Vietnamese. He then retired in 1972 as Chief of staff. He died in Charleston, SC on july 18, 2005
Lt. Gen. John R. Allen- he has to start pulling troops out from Afghanistan in July. he said that he didnt expect to pull out this soon. obama wants 10,000 troops pulled by the end of the year and another 23,000 by the end of september. the general doesnt want to pull out now because he wants 200 more teams to come in and train the Afghan soldiers and police.
Kevin, who is the head general for the troops today in Afghanistan, and is there any controversy over his leadership or the man who served as General before him?
