The Montagnards means mountain
people in French and is a carryover from the French colonial period in Vietnam .
The term is preferable to the derogatory Vietnamese moi, meaning’ savage nonstandard
is the term, typically shortened to yard, used by U.S. military personnel in
the central highlands during the Vietnam, War montagnards who are made up of
different tribes with overlapping customs so social interaction and language
patterns. That is names of the tribes who are refugee and come in American and
than six different ethnic groups. The families traditionally live in tribal
villages. Related kin or extended families of 10 to 20 people live in longhouse
that share public space with some private families’ room areas. Kinship and families
roles very by tribe but, many of the tribes have matrilineal and matrilocal
marriage patterns. When a man marries a woman, he joins her family, adopts her
name and moves into her family’s villages usually into her mother’s house.
Traditionally the woman’s family arranges the marriages and the woman pays
groom price to his family. Family unit, the Montagnrad diet traditionally
centers around rice with vegetable and sliced barbecued beef when meat is
available. Common vegetable include squash, cabbage. Traditional Montagnard
dress is very colorful, handmade, embroidered. It is still worn to culture
events and sold as handicraft. The first language of a montagnard is that of
his or her tribe. In areas with overlapping tribes or with similar language
patterns, people may be able to communicate across tribe language wit6hout much
difficulty. The government has outlawed the use of the tribe language in School
and those who have had school can also speak some Vietnamese. They adaptation
to American culture the montagnard inter marriage with other ethnic groups is
change the montagnard tradition. Men and women both work outside the home and
share childcare according to work schedule. Because of the shortage of
montagnard women in the united state many men live together in simulated .....family

ReplyDeleteDuring the Vietnamese war, the Montagnard had contact with U.S.forces as the highland area was very strategic. After that During the Vietnam War, the Montagnards had contact with US Forces, as the highland area was very strategic.Montagnard bravery and loyalty earned them the respect and friendship of the U.S. military forces as well as sympathy for the Montagnard struggle for independence. FINAL The U.S. helps lot thing because many refugee came to American and lives with a good life up to the this time and learn many of thing such as education for women and other thing.
